Formation of
International Center for Nano Technology
and Applied Adhesion
Dr. Shantanu Bhowmik, Senior Scientist, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands stated in a press release that due to the strong endeavor of Prof. Jayakumar (Vice Chancellor: Sikkim Manipal University) and himself from Delft University of Technology; Adhesion Institute of Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands and Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) signed MOU on dated 14th April 2008 to establish International Centre for Nano Technology and Applied Adhesion (ICNTAA) at SMIT (SMU).
It is notewothy that Nano Technology is one of the most emerging technologies throughout the world at the moment. Keeping this view in mind, while CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE on Nano Technology is possible at the foot hills of Alps (Switzerland) and Rocky Mountain (USA and Canada), so, it was decided to start at the foot hills of Himalaya too.
INDIA is a land of knowledge since several thousand years. Dr. Shantanu Bhomik stated that due to his strong endeavour since last several years and after a marathon meeting with Vice Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University on 24th May and 2nd October 2008, now it is the reality International Centre for Nano Technology and Applied Adhesion ((http://www.icntaa.org/home.html) at SMIT (Sikkim Manipal University).
He said that the details of Nano Technology also can be accessed in the link and also to in the leading newspapers of the State for the interested students from Sikkim and North East India.
The major points one can locate in this link: are (i) MOU between Adhesion Institute, Delft University of Technology, The Neherlands and Sikkim Manipal University, Sikkim, India (ii) Reputation of Delft University of Technology (a) It is one of the best Technical Universities in Europe and (b) Unique reputation interms of research throughout the world (iii) Formation of ICNTAA in Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), and it's objective (iv) Reputation of Advisory Committee, as number of world class researchers are members in the Advisory Committee of ICNTAA (v) First ever M.Tech course on Applied Nano Technology in India at Sikkim Manipal University and its relevance to various industries such as Aviation, Space, Transportation, Nuclear, Electrical and Electronics, Bio-chemical and chemical etc (vi) Opportunities of M.Tech students in various industries in India after getting this high quality education (vii) High quality research leading to Ph.D on Applied Nano Technology (viii) ICNTAA (SMU), Sikkim will conduct 2nd Indo-Swiss Bonding International Congress from Feb. 11-13, 2010, where, there will be atleast 25-30 top class Foreign (From Europe and North America) delegates both from Academia and Industry
